There's nothing wrong with high-intensity cardio every here and there to boost body fat loss, but in my experience, people do way too much of it, with no recovery days for your muscles and body to rest, repair and recover. Unfortunately, this can backfire and lead to weight gain. How? You ask? That's because we tend to overestimate the number of calories we burn during hard-core routines, and that high intensity increases our appetite, and we end up eating more food in the process. Over the top cardio also boosts stress hormones like cortisol, (THE HORMONE THATS RESPONSIBLE FOR WOEMENS BELLY FAT INCREASING! ESPECIALLY OVER AGE 40) that can also contribute to weight gain and immune system suppression. Rather than doing a few kick-butt cardio classes and being sedentary the rest of the time, move more in general during your daily activities. Remember, everything we do when we move burns calories, not just at the gym or at that spin class. Goal: Wear a pedometer and try to get in 10,000 steps a day. Its s
